Even if you don’t suspect any eye health issues, it’s key to come in for a regular eye examination to maintain optimum eye health, and so that any issues can be detected early.
Regular eye tests at Eye Concepts are bulk-billed under Medicare. This means that all Medicare recipients are eligible to receive standard eye examinations with no out of pocket expenses and without having to file paperwork for reimbursement. Under the new coverage plan for the eye test, qualified individuals under the age of 65 are covered for a comprehensive eye examination once every three years, while recipients over the age of 65 can get a bulk-billed eye test once every year.
While our daily use of digital screens simplifies a lot of our daily tasks, it can lead to discomforts like tired and dry eyes, or even headaches and trouble sleeping. These issues can fall under digital eye strain, which can be caused by blue light, reduced blinking rate, repetitive eye movement and uncorrected vision problems. At Eye Concepts Southland, we provide a number of lens solutions to help prevent eye strain.
Contact lenses are a popular solution to many people who need to correct their vision, considering they can provide clear vision, without obstructing your field of vision as frames do. However, to get started with contact lenses, you need a specific eye examination. During this examination, our friendly optometrist measures various aspects, such as the curve of your cornea or the size of your pupil. This information is key to determine the correct size of the contact lenses, which is key to maintaining your eye health. Our Southland team offers this service.
Macula Degeneration Assessment
Macula degeneration is one of the most common causes for age-related eye issues. However, when it’s detected early, there are more treatment options to minimise its effects. That’s why we recommend everyone to come in for a macula degeneration assessment once you reach the age of 60. If needed, they can create a vision care plan which will maximise your eyesight for longer, and of course, our friendly optometrists at Southland are here to help.
Ortho-k or orthokeratology is a treatment mostly suitable for children with progressive myopia or nearsightedness, but ortho-k can be beneficial for some adults too. This non-surgical treatment can help sharpen your sight during the day, by using a type of overnight lens that helps to reshape the cornea. If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of myopia/short sightedness, it’s key to visit your optometrist promptly for a comprehensive examination. When it comes to formative and intellectual development, maintaining good children’s eye health is essential. We recommend that your child should have their eyes tested from the age of 3, and every 2-3 years as they go through school. We do this so we can avoid difficulties at school and in life, no matter if it’s the ability to read the school board or their proprioception when participating in sports.
